Our famous sailing shipBuilt by the Hamburg based shipyard company “Blohm + Voss”, the “Gorch Fock” was used as a training ship by German naval forces until 1945. After years of an unsure future and being owned by several nations, the ship can now be visited as it is once again moored at Stralsund’s harbour. |

The German Oceanographic Museum with its four exhibitions is the largest museum of natural science in Northern Germany. In 1871 the fishmonger Johann Wichmann from Stralsund asked the Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck for permission to sell his pickled herring as “Bismarck Herring”. Otto von Bismarck granted his permit and so the Bismarck herring from Stralsund came on the world market.
